Youth and Children's Camp has long been the cornerstone of the Presbytery's outreach to young people, helping them build the foundation of a life in Christ through fun, fellowship, and worship in a setting created by God.  With the skills of its most talented educators, pastors and lay people, the Presbytery has developed an effective and engaging camp program--one that is an expression of God's love and care for each camper.

The Presbytery's investment of time and energy in its camping program has paid off generously, yielding dividends in the form of lifelong memories and friendships, generations of Presbyterian leaders, and the kind of life-changing experiences for which the Presbytery is known.  Even some marriages trace their earliest roots to youth and children's camp.

In bringing its formidable camping expertise to Living River, the Presbytery promises to raise the bar for youth and children's camps throughout Alabama and the surrounding region.  With Living River's astounding natural resources--440 acres of wooded ridges and valleys, natural wetlands, and four miles of scenic riverfront, to name a few--this sacred space has unlimited potential to inspire, delight and entertain new generations of young people.  At Living River, the Presbytery will be able to reach out to more young people than ever before, providing them with enduring spiritual riches that will shine outward, lighting the world where ever they go.

Facilities
To best serve future generations of young campers, the Presbytery is augmenting the natural resources of Living River with the finest in youth and children's camp facilities, using its experience and know-how to help shape the building and site design in a way that not only preserves the natural beauty of the land, but also fosters the highest quality, most secure experience possible for K-12 campers.  The facilities and amenities will initially include:

  • Six individual cabins, each divided between boys and girls and accommodating up to 22 people
  • A staff cabin that will accommodate up to 12 people and house an infirmary
  • A gym/dining hall with a capacity of 200
  • Areas for fishing, including a canoe launch and takeout
  • A ropes course and climbing tower
  • Nature paths for hiking and environmental observation
  • An athletic field
  • A swimming pool
  • An outdoor chapel
  • Access to the Cahaba River, an existing lake, and wooded ridges and valleys, enabling campers to experience a great variety of activities, and to appreciate the environmental aspects of the site.

The completion goal for Living River's youth and children's camp is Summer 2010.
